Welcome to my website!

My name is Caleb Richter-Tate. I grew up on a dry-land wheat farm in Perkins County, Nebraska. During my 18 years on the farm I saw many things change, not only in agriculture, but in rural communities as well. Farmers quit farming, area schools consolidated, and main street businesses shut their doors. The way of life I knew and loved changed right before my eyes. After I finished high school and moved away to college, I wondered if the place I knew as a kid would even exist when I was ready to come home.  Trying to find a way to preserve that home influenced my academic pursuits.

I received my Ph.D. in Development Studies from the University of Zacatecas, I have a M.A. in Human Geography with a focus on the historical and cultural geography of Mexico, and I have a B.A. in International Studies with a concentration in Latin America. In addition to my formal education, I have also lived, traveled, worked, and studied in various parts of Latin America for several years. My academic areas of interest include: Social development, grassroots and social movements, Geography/Sociology of agriculture and food, Cultural and Historical Geography of Latin America (Mexico), U.S. – Mexico relations, and the Great Plains.
